Can I withdraw my article from the Sage Open Access Portal?

Gold Journals


If you wish to withdraw your article from Sage Open Access Portal, please note the following procedures based on your article status:


If you have not yet raised or paid your APC invoice: 


If you have not yet raised or paid your APC invoice, your article will be withdrawn from publication upon your request. Please email our Open Access Customer Services team at openaccess@sagepub.com and include the following:

  • Article Title
  • DOI
  • Journal 
  • Corresponding Author


If you have paid your APC invoice:


If your have already paid your APC invoice, this will require further investigation and approval. Please email our Open Access Customer Services team at openaccess@sagepub.com and include the following:

  • Article Title
  • DOI
  • Journal 
  • Corresponding Author


If the withdrawal and refund is approved, the paid amount will be refunded to you and your article will be officially withdrawn from production.


Hybrid Journals


If you would like to withdraw your article from Sage Choice:


If you would like to withdraw your article from Sage Choice and publish under the traditional subscription option, please decline the Open Access request using the link provided in the email sent to you from the Sage Open Access portal. Alternatively, this offer will expire in 14 days and we will proceed to publish your article via the traditional subscription route. If you encounter any difficulties, please email our Open Access Customer Services team at openaccess@sagepub.com for assistance. 


If you would like to withdraw from subscription publication: 


If you wish to withdraw your article completely from subscription publication, please reach out to the journal's Editor whose contact information can be found in the Manuscript Submission Guidelines. To find this, visit the Sage Journals platform, search for the journal title, and go to the submission guidelines tab. The journal's Editor email address can be found in the last section of these guidelines.


Can I reactivate my article? 

If you wish to proceed with publishing the article in the journal at a later date and would like to re-activate the offer

 Please email our Open Access Customer Services team at openaccess@sagepub.com and include the following:

  • Article Title
  • DOI
  • Journal 
  • Corresponding Author

They will assist you in reactivating your submission and guide you through the subsequent steps.


Please note, if your withdrawal occurred more than 6 months ago we cannot guarantee reactivation. Instead, the Open Access Customer Services team will consult with the Publishing Editor of the journal to determine if we can reactivate your submission.
