When will my article be published Open Access?

Overview

The duration of time it takes for an article to be published is determined by the stage it is within the publication process. Once an article has been accepted for publication, it can take approximately 6-9 weeks for it to be published. These steps may include editing, formatting, and proofreading, among others. It is important to note that the specific timeline may vary depending on the journal and the complexity of the article.

When will my article be published?

For Gold and Hybrid (Sage Choice) articles:

  • After your manuscript files have undergone the necessary checks for Sage production, the authors will receive a notification regarding the required steps in the Sage Open Access Portal. 
  • To complete the article workflow in the Sage Open Access Portal, there are specific steps that must be followed.
    • Accept the APC (if applicable) / Choose Open Access
    • Sign the Open Access license
    • Nominate a payer (if applicable) 
    • Raise an invoice (if applicable) 
    • Complete APC payment (if applicable)
  • Once the payment has been made or workflow is complete, our production team will proceed with preparing your article for publication. You can expect your article to be published online within 5-6 weeks from the date of payment.
  • If the workflow for your article is not completed in the Sage Open Access portal, we will not be able to publish your article Open Access. If you encounter any difficulties while completing the workflow, you can reach out to our Open Access Customer Services team at openaccess@sagepub.com.


If you have completed the workflow in the Sage Open Access Portal and you have not received communication from the Production team, please contact them. 

  • Please email authorproductionqueries@sagepub.co.uk, including your article ID, title and journal name, and request an update on the publication status. 
  • Alternatively, when your article is exported to production, authors will receive an email containing the Production team's contact information for your specific journal. Please contact them for an update on the publication status.
