Can I change/update my ORCiD ID?

Modified on Thu, 18 Apr 2024 at 10:56 AM

ORCiD IDs (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) are unique identifiers that are assigned to individual authors and researchers. These IDs are designed to help distinguish individuals from one another and to ensure that their work is accurately attributed to them. By using an ORCiD ID, researchers can easily connect their work across different platforms and systems, making it easier to track their impact and contributions to the field. If you would like to learn more about ORCiD IDs and how they can benefit you as a researcher, we encourage you to visit the ORCiD ID website.

Authors should include their ORCiD ID when they submit the article to the peer review stage during submission of the article.

Can I change/update my ORCiD ID?

  • It is highly recommended that authors provide their ORCiD ID when submitting the articles to the peer review stage during submission of the article.
  • Please note that once the manuscript is accepted, the ORCiD ID undergoes validation via secure sign-on within the submission system to ensure that it is matched to the correct author. Therefore, if the ORCiD ID is not provided during submission and a request is made to add or change it after acceptance, this will not be possible as the system generates a unique code for each author's ORCiD ID upon acceptance. This code generation is automatic and cannot be manually generated, which means that we are unable to insert the ORCiD ID in an article once it arrives for production.
  • Sage is unable to add or modify an ORCiD ID once an article has been accepted, therefore we strongly advise that all ORCiD IDs are entered upon submission.
  • In the event that the author has not included their ORCiD ID, but wishes to include this on the invoice, they may opt to enter the ORCiD ID in the notes field (a free text field) when completing billing details and raising an invoice in the Sage Open Access Portal. This will ensure that the ORCiD ID is present on the APC invoice.
