How do I choose hybrid Open Access (Sage Choice)?

Modified on Tue, 11 Feb at 7:50 AM

For most journals, you no longer need to request Sage Choice to make your article open access. Instead, you will be contacted directly via email through Sage Journals Licensing & Payment and you can follow the instructions provided below:

  • After your article is accepted, you will receive an email from [email protected] This email will direct you to the platform where you can complete the license signing.

  • The first author who follows the link will be taken to the Sage Journals: Licensing & Payment page to sign the license on behalf of all authors. You will need to select your name from the author list and either register for a new account or log in to your existing account.

  • You will be taken to a page where you’ll have the option to request open access publication for your article. Click on the option that says 'Request to publish open access here'

  • In the next step you will find a page that quotes the applicable Article Processing Charge (APC). You’ll then need to confirm whether you want to publish the article open access or stick with the subscription-based publication.

  • If you choose 'Yes, make my article open access', you’ll move to the open access workflow. In this section, you'll need to select your Creative Commons (CC) license and specify who owns the copyright for your contribution to the article.

  • Once the license is selected all authors associated with the article will receive a copy of the signed license via email.

  • You will then proceed to enter your billing details, raise an invoice and complete the APC payment. If you require assistance on this step, please see: How do I raise an invoice and complete payment in Sage Journals: Licensing & Payment?

  • If you wish to nominate someone to pay the APC charge, to do so please follow the instructions here: How do I nominate a bill payer in the Sage Open Access Portal?
